betwixt and between

Betwixt and between’ is the phrase coined by anthropologist, Victor Turner, as a way to articulate the liminal phase in rites of passage. To connect liminality with asylum provides alternate axes by which to consider the complexities of this most contentious of issues. The liminal space, like asylum, represents a state of transition, characterised by displacement, uncertainty, vulnerability, and ultimately, transformation.

Here, ‘Betwixt and Between’ provides the working title for an ongoing creative engagement with local asylum support group, SWVG. The work looks to provide alternative representation that draws attention to individual lives, identities, interests. A space where humanity steps into the void left by ideology.
